CMI and OAS – Organization of American States – sign agreement

Today, March 16, 2022, is a day of utmost importance for Freemasonry across the American Continent. The Executive Secretary of the CMI, Geraldo Macedo, accompanied by his Deputy, Edgar Sánchez, and the Director General, Rubens Franz, were received at the OAS Headquarters in Washington, DC, by its Secretary General, Luis Almagro.

After lunch, a cooperation agreement was signed for the two institutions to work together in defense of freedom, equality and democracy across the continent. Then, the first working meeting was held in favor of these fundamental principles.

In the words of the OAS Secretary General, “our independence heroes, many of whom were outstanding Freemasons, with their ideas inspired the nascent nations of the Americas and honored Freemasonry in the region. Its legacy, its vision of the future and its integrationist character have been essential pillars for the functioning of our organization.”

On the occasion, the Executive Secretary of the CMI, Geraldo Macedo, highlighted that the objective of Freemasonry is “to make humanity happy”, but that there is no complete happiness as long as there are “peoples at war, illiterates subjected to slave labor, hunger, lack of freedom, citizens living under the yoke of dictators and without minimal access to education”. And these are the common points in the reason for existing, both of the CMI and the OAS.
